whole new blog
wierd. this is wierd. i’ve been writing on Open and on the forums for a year altogether, but writing a blog is a completely different thing. i have a few articles lined up to link here and blab about, but what i’ve been stuck on is the introductory statement. That always used to get me tangled up when I tried diary writing too. Who am I writing too? and Why don’t I sound like me? were the two main reasons the diary thing never really lasted.
But this isn’t anywhere near as strangely private/confessional as a diary, plus i’m all grown up now and most things seem less angsty then they did when i was twelve.
Speaking of angsty, I had this idea the other day while listening to the radio that there are a certain category of songs that seem to have been written by the authors speaking to and about themselves in the second or third person. I thought that this seemed like a good way to try and get the personal perspective and detail of a cool song, so my friend emilie and I are trying it. Here’s the chorus of the first one I managed to produce by attempting this strategy:
so she knows
she got to
learn to drive, be more alive,
write less angst-y, selfish songs
grab this ol’ bull by the horns
and just keep on keepin’ on
just keep on keepin’ on.
Now i’m messing around with Audacity and these old cheap mics El’s Grampa found to try and make it a song. This is a good little side project to add to the ever-longer list of things I shouldn’t be doing while finishing my thesis. Much like this blog.
